Apartment for Occasional Stay in Ljubljana

The apartment was designed in an unused attic in the center of Ljubljana. The building from the late 19^th century is protected as monument heritage. LUP architects took over the project in the third construction phase and designed it until the final phase, including interior design and lighting.
The floor plan of the apartment is irregular in shape, and due to the optimal utilization of the space, all the equipment is custom-made. Exceptions and irregularities were utilized as a quality, and integrated as a starting point for design. The usable area is significantly reduced due to the roofs, so we aimed to design a space as open and connected as possible. The service box with the bathroom is the only completely closed place.

We believe that light is essential for the design of a space, and despite the limited possibilities, we strived to arrange a bright space with light coming from all sides.  The basic parts of the equipment are white and retained, the decorative parts of the equipmentare made of wood. The design theme was oak veneer with engraved patterns.

What makes this project one-of-a-kind?
The apartment is located in the attic of a building with a limited amount of natural light, under Heritage Protection, and located in the city center of Ljubljana. With a flow design and selection of colors and materials, we therefore tried to establish an open space with a flow of natural light that permeates the entire ambience. All the equipment is uniquely designed with an emphasis on details, which gives the space a sense of connection, thus providing a common design principle for the entire apartment.
