Serbia is building at extraordinary speed. New architecture is reshaping its cities, ambitions and image, but speed alone tells us little about direction. The more important question is what kind of architectural culture is being formed while all this is happening — what values are gaining ground, what is being left behind, and what this generation will choose to carry forward. A country can change quickly without yet knowing what it wants to become. That is precisely what makes this moment worth looking at.
At the centre of the evening is Finished / Unfinished: each invited practice presents one realised project and one still in development — one showing what has survived reality, the other what can still change. Along the way, we ask: What is still worth creating? It is at the heart of BIG SEE’s annual theme UNFINISHED, asked here in Belgrade and throughout the year to people around the world who design, build, make, question, teach, invest, commission and imagine what comes next. The evening also brings together Serbia’s BIG SEE Perspectives and BIG SEE Winners 2018–2026 — different generations and stages within one evolving creative landscape. Their voices meet again at the BIG SEE Festival in Portorož, where the local conversation joins a wider international one.

Srbija gradi izuzetnom brzinom. Nova arhitektura preoblikuje njene gradove, ambicije i sliku o sebi, ali sama brzina malo govori o pravcu u kojem se krećemo. Važnije pitanje je kakva se arhitektonska kultura oblikuje dok se sve to dešava — koje vrednosti dobijaju na značaju, šta ostaje iza nas i šta će ova generacija odlučiti da ponese sa sobom u budućnost. Jedna zemlja može da se menja veoma brzo, a da još uvek ne zna šta želi da postane. Upravo zato ovaj trenutak vredi sagledati.

U središtu večeri je Završeno / Nezavršeno: svaki pozvani arhitektonski studio predstavlja jedan realizovan projekat i jedan koji je još u razvoju — prvi pokazuje šta je izdržalo susret sa stvarnošću, a drugi šta još može da se promeni. Usput postavljamo pitanje: Šta još vredi stvarati? To pitanje je u samom središtu godišnje teme BIG SEE-a, UNFINISHED, i postavljamo ga ovde u Beogradu, ali i tokom cele godine ljudima širom sveta koji projektuju, grade, stvaraju, preispituju, podučavaju, investiraju, naručuju i zamišljaju ono što dolazi. Veče takođe okuplja srpske BIG SEE Perspectives i BIG SEE Winners 2018–2026 — različite generacije i različite faze unutar jednog kreativnog pejzaža koji se neprestano razvija. Njihovi glasovi ponovo će se susresti na BIG SEE Festivalu u Portorožu, gde se lokalni razgovor uključuje u širi međunarodni dijalog.
