Simply Building with Quality: A place of identity and belonging was to be created for the vital volunteer work of the Bühl am Alpsee Fire Brigade. Following the course of the main road, a building was conceived that defines the streetscape – realized as a functional, cost-efficient, and sustainable structure. Only what was truly necessary was built, yet executed to a high standard of quality.

Starting with the most compact possible volume beneath a pitched roof – derived directly from the required clear heights of the vehicle bay, ancillary rooms, and training room – this philosophy informed every aspect of the design. The single-story building rests on a thermally activated concrete slab and was constructed entirely in timber, using wood sourced from the nearby municipal forest. The painting of the distinctive red timber façade with linseed oil–based paint, as well as the interior cladding of the training room, was carried out by the volunteer members of the fire brigade themselves.
