The S Winery project was the result of an architectural competition in which a private investor gave young studios the chance to realise the building. The building is located in one of the most important winegrowing areas in Slovakia, characterized by small buildings of traditional brick vineyard houses. Our design, reflecting the small-scale environment, was therefore based on the fragmentation of the program into six smaller volumes, creating two distinct spaces. In its urban concept, it also preserved the original extent of the vineyard and added vegetation with tree species characteristic of the local landscape.
From an artistic and compositional point of view, the winery complex is made up of simple, archetypal, white buildings. All the buildings are made of brick, are single-storey, and have gabled roofs. The main social part of the winery (consisting of a showroom, catering, and accommodation building) and the production building are grouped around a central, tree-lined courtyard, open to visitors coming from the street lined with walnut trees. The outbuildings and warehouses are arranged around the courtyard. The original, historic wine cellar has also been preserved on the basement level, which connects the showroom to the main production building.
