The Perelman Performing Arts Center (PACNYC) by REX

As the cultural keystone and final element in the WTC masterplan, PAC NYC appears as a pure, elevated cube wrapped in translucent marble (laminated within insulated glass for energy performance). By day, its quiet dignity acknowledges the solemnity of the adjacent 9/11 Memorial; by night, the volume dematerializes and glows, revealing the activity within.

Inside, wood, steel, and concrete finishes express a workhorse performance machine with pioneering multi-form and multi-processional transformability. The Theater Level provides three performance spaces – the Zuccotti (450 seats), the Nichols (250 seats), and the Duke (99 seats) – as well as two scene docks. The auditoria and scene docks can combine into 10 performance proportions and 68 (to date) stage-audience configurations ranging from 80 to 950 seats, surprising visitors with a different environment each visit and empowering directors to push the boundaries of creativity and audience engagement.
