Mihai Stamati: Betoane catifelate (Velvety concretes)

MihaiStamati – Design studio, Moldova

Mihai Stamati is an Industrial designer and lecturer at the Technical University of Moldova. In 2012 he founded his own Design studio where he creates by placing value on the concept, natural materials, innovation, but also on the traditional cultural background. He tends to create products that represent more than just form and utility. After participating in several international contests of automotive design, he started working on street furniture projects, operating with various techniques and materials. Mihai Stamati is the author of several furniture and installation projects in public space, including: playground in the “Council of Europe” square, Chisinau; „Loft Green Plauground” in Mogoșoaia, Romania; urban furniture “OZN” (UFO) for ARTCOR, Chisinau; street furniture “Betoane catifelate” (velvety concretes), Chisinau; „The Library Tree” furniture complex for the square of the National Library of Moldova; “Le gardien des Souvenirs” – urban furniture project made during the creative residency at ICR Paris.
Mihai Stamati – Design Studio also designed and produced various collections of interior items, children’s toys and home furnishings. These collections have been exhibited at important design events such as: Vienna design Week, Romanian design Week, Stockholm design Week, Saint-Étienne International Design Biennale, Milan Design Week, European Fashion and Design Market, Bruxelles.
