An innovative solution to help tackle depressive disorders through product design: struggle-free lighting. The COMEDOWN table lamp introduces a simple yet groundbreaking concept — the light bulb doesn’t need to be attached, but is simply placed into the base from above. With this effortless operating principle, the lamp serves as both a functional light source and a symbol, shedding light on an issue that often goes unnoticed by the majority of society. It offers a small release from the struggles of everyday tasks.
This design came to me during a difficult period in my life, when I was diagnosed with dysthymia. For people struggling with depressive disorders, even the simplest tasks — getting out of bed, getting dressed, or replacing a light bulb — can feel overwhelming. Once, my light went out and I found myself just sitting in the dark. This product symbolizes those seemingly impossible tasks and offers a solution to one of them.
