The site of the former coffin factory in Vienna-Liesing has undergone a transformation, from a derelict industrial area into a residential area. The planning process was informed by three fundamental areas: urban heat, mitigation measures, single parents, and serial construction. The central solitaire structure is divided by vertical breaks.
These intervals are integral to the development process and, in addition to the division of the edifice, also engender optimal illumination conditions within. This configuration of “windmill” floor plans facilitated the creation of numerous corner apartments. The loggias and balconies are arranged in superimposed rows as exposed concrete elements. The development comprises a total of 71 two- to four-room apartments of various types. All subsidized apartments are equipped with private outdoor spaces, which are typically referred to as loggias or balconies.
The issue of SMART Living in terms of social diversity and variety was given particular consideration. The units in question were integrated as an integral part of the individual floors, alongside the conventional apartments.
