“SPYNIE OFFICE, PERAK RIVER: FROM SHIPYARD TO WORKPLACE” transforms a derelict SHIPYARD in Teluk Intan, Perak, into a sustainable headquarters for an oil palm plantation business and a community hub. Preserving its steel skeleton and integrating translucent rooflights, the design honors the region’s industrial heritage while redefining its purpose.
Beneath the large shelter, clusters of glass pavilions adopt sustainable strategies: Courtyard design to prevent deep-plan layouts Biophilic & native planting to enhance ecological values Elevated platforms for flood resilience Trickle ventilation and passive cooling Maximized daylighting. More than an office, the project revitalizes the rural community, fostering adaptive reuse and social resilience.
