SOO.MED is an interdisciplinary medical practice and surgical center in Vienna’s 17th district, combining modern consultation rooms with a day-clinic surgical area across two floors. The project’s goal was to deliberately avoid the typical medical practice character and instead create a welcoming space that reduces apprehension and gives patients a sense of comfort and security.
The heart of the concept is the central reception area on the third floor, from which all four consultation rooms are accessed. The organic, rounded design language characterizes the entire space, creating a warm, inviting atmosphere through flowing transitions. Sharp corners were deliberately avoided, with all elements harmoniously blending into one another. Materiality plays a central role in the overall concept. Elegant stone at the reception desk skillfully contrasts with soft fabric upholstery and cloud-like textured plaster on walls and ceilings. Dark wood combined with understated metal tones in brown nuances lends the space additional warmth and elegance. The various textures of the materials enhance the sensory spatial experience. The lighting concept underscores the welcoming atmosphere: While the consultation rooms are optimally lit, indirect lighting and soft light spheres create a relaxed ambiance in the common areas.
The surgical area is located on the second floor, placing special emphasis on patient comfort alongside functional equipment. Another highlight is the recovery room, with three individually designed nooks, offering each patient their own space for preparation and post-operative care. This is complemented by a consultation room for preliminary discussions and a break room for medical staff. SOO.MED thus emerges as a day clinic that combines medical quality with thoughtful design, creating an environment where patients and physicians alike feel at ease.
