“Pracht-Werk” demonstrates how sustainable urban densification can transform historic buildings without sealing additional land. The Gründerzeit building in Vienna’s 16th district was carefully renovated and extended with three new rooftop levels, increasing residential area from 1.505 m² to 2.845 m².

At the same time, the heating demand was reduced by 68%, lowering CO2 emissions by 111 tons annually. Historic facades were restored, courtyards were unsealed and greenery planted, and a 26 kWp photovoltaic system was integrated into the roof design. The project combines preservation, contemporary architecture, and ecological responsibility, serving as a replicable model for climate-sensitive, inner-city development.
