The central design concept of “Haus S+M” revolves around creating a retreat in the heart of the urban landscape. Since the property is located right in the city, the architects faced the challenge of engaging with the urban environment while ensuring privacy. The architects’ solution functions as a kind of “urban oasis”: Shielding from the outside: The building is designed to deliberately keep out the hustle, bustle, and noise of the adjacent street.
Here, the architecture forms a protective barrier. Opening toward nature: In contrast to its defensive stance toward the street, the house focuses inward, toward the garden. Particular attention is paid to capturing the tranquility of the existing trees on the property. Nature thus becomes a central and soothing component of the living atmosphere. In summary, “Haus S+M” represents an exciting urban planning and architectural balancing act: It shields the residents from urban stress while simultaneously creating a nature-oriented, intimate, and peaceful living environment in the heart of Wels.
