Grangure Petru-Alin, Romania, 2026

Nominator's statement

I am pleased to nominate Alin Grangure for BIG SEE Perspectives. I had the opportunity to work closely with Alin during the development of both his undergraduate and dissertation projects, which focused on jewelry collections that illustrate a particularly beautiful symbiosis between historical, noble jewelry, inspired by the Carolingian style - for the undergraduate project, while his dissertation explored Romanian archetypal symbols, reinterpreting them in a contemporary language through the use of modern techniques and methods.

His projects were very well received at both national and international jewelry and product design events. He was awarded a Gold Medal at the Traian Vuia Innovation and Invention Event in Romania and received 3rd Place from Accademia Riaci International Art & Design Competition in Italy for employing a generative design–inspired language to create striking contemporary jewelry forms characterized by distinctive shapes, textures, and volumes.

REFLECTION FROM THE PAST – A CONTEMPORARY VISION

Reflection from the Past - A Contemporary Vision is a jewelry set inspired by the aesthetic language of Carolingian-era jewelry, reinterpreted through a contemporary design approach. The project preserves essential historical references while integrating organic forms and fluid geometries characteristic of modern design. Conceived as a dialogue between past and present, the pieces explore how traditional ornamentation can be translated into a refined, minimal expression. The set is designed to be crafted in 18k gold combined with silver, while the gemstones are synthetic, emphasizing both material contrast and controlled composition.

ESSENCE OF TRADITION, JEWELRY BEARING ROMANIAN ARCHETYPAL SYMBOLS

Essence of Tradition, Jewelry Bearing Romanian Archetypal Symbols is a collection centered on Romanian traditional motifs, reinterpreted through a contemporary design approach. The project consists of eight pieces, organized into four pairs of rings and necklaces, each inspired by textile patterns from four different regions of Romania. These symbols serve as a starting point for transformation, undergoing a significant reinterpretation through organic design techniques and abstraction, while preserving their original geometric character. The collection is conceived to be crafted in anodized titanium, complemented by synthetic gemstones that retain the original chromatic identity of the reference motifs.

ORGANIC URBAN INSTALLATIONS

Organic Urban Installations is a proposal for the redesign of a public park in Timișoara, centered on large-scale structures inspired by organic forms. The project introduces sculptural elements that evoke trees and root systems, translated into a contemporary design language defined by fluid geometries and expressive forms. Beyond their visual impact, the installations integrate a functional lighting system, contributing to the illumination of the public space. Designed to stand out within the existing context, the structures create a distinct presence during the day through their unconventional geometry, while at night they generate a dynamic interplay of light and shadow, enhancing the spatial experience.

GRANGURE PETRU-ALIN

Grangure Petru-Alin is a Timișoara-based product designer and university assistant at the Faculty of Arts and Design, West University of Timișoara. He completed his Master’s degree in Product and Interior Design at the same institution and is currently a second-year PhD student. His work is primarily focused on jewelry design, using organic design as a mode of expression, while also engaging with product and environmental design. He is particularly interested in the broader field of 3D modeling and 3D printing, exploring their potential in shaping contemporary design practices.
