deSter designed and developed this fully reusable and recyclable Economy dining tableware collection for Etihad Airways to transform a traditionally disposable onboard ritual into a premium, circular product experience. Comprising the tray, casserole dish, side bowls, lids, and platter, the system is made from high-quality, recycled plastic and engineered for repeated use in the demanding context of commercial aviation.
At the core of the concept is closed-loop thinking: Each item is designed not only for durability and long service life, but also for end-of-life recovery, where materials can be washed, ground, and remanufactured into new products. The collection brings together operational precision and elevated design. Its clean forms, calm visual language, and refined tactile quality improve the perception of Economy dining, while the technical design supports lightweight performance, hygiene, stackability, and efficient onboard handling.
By replacing single-use plastic tableware with a reusable and recyclable system, deSter helped Etihad create a more sustainable service model without compromising guest experience. The result is a solution that merges product design, circularity, and brand expression in one of the world’s most demanding service environments.
