Closer to the Sun by Fitore Syla

A wonderfully original attic space that called for whimsical touches to transform it into a dreamy sanctuary, filled with light, warmth, and harmony. This bedroom was designed for a newlywed couple, Albana and Ardian. Albana is also my sister, which made the project deeply personal. We grew up in this neighborhood of Pristina, often dreaming about living in the attic rooms of the “white buildings” from the 1980s. She imagined a bed beneath an attic window, while I imagined the furniture and objects that might inhabit such spaces. Years later, both dreams came true.

Natural light flows throughout the day, shaping the atmosphere with softness and shadow. A whimsical wallpaper inspired by French Toile de Jouy sets a nostalgic, romantic tone. Custom furniture with zigzag details recalls childhood patterns, reinterpreted in a contemporary way. The space also features my own designs: Leka wall lamps, made from gourds grown in our family orchard, and the AJO Mirror, inspired by the ancient Albanian symbol of the Goddess on the Throne. A soft, blue-framed entrance and a rounded window gently connect the bedroom and bathroom, enhancing light, openness, and continuity.
