Bossanova coffee

Bossa Nova Roasters is a brand that operates large cafes in several locations. The Bossa Nova Samcheok branch has been a long-term project and has been involved since the time of architectural design. I believe it’s a huge advantage to be able to design the interior from the construction stage. The intention was to express the structure and morphology in concrete and apply the white solid and flat properties in contrast to the raw feeling to the small elements of architecture, such as furniture, handrails, partial walls, and partial ceilings. In addition, various materials such as barisol, stainless steel, hardwood floor, and wood were used, but with as little moderation as possible while maintaining concrete and white-based physical properties.

When planning the space for the first time, the most important thing was the view given by the characteristics of the land. In this era, the word “Cha-gyeong,” commonly used by architects, was contemplated on how to actively reflect it in the space and what role it would play. The homework was also to consider what kind of impression Samcheok would give to the new view of the sea, which local residents had always seen, when they saw it in a new space, drinking coffee and eating dessert.

To focus the most on the view and the moment, we aimed to design a space that was not overly decorative and could provide only minimal information. The second concern was to create a simple but not boring space. We wanted to create a space where customers could spend time for the first time and promise to return, that is, a space that offers diversity and curiosity. On each floor of the rooftop, the way of sitting varies, and although it has simplicity in overall tone and structure, it is planned to create a variety of seats and enjoy them on each floor.

The story of the brand contained within, mainly coffee and desserts, inspired the creation of a space where customers can focus on it, and a space that feels complete when Bossa Nova is filled.
