Boris Bežan & Mónica Juvera

Architects and Founders of BAX Studio | Spain

BAX is an architecture studio based in Barcelona, led by Boris Bežan and Mónica Juvera, whose work is grounded in the conception of architecture as public infrastructure. The practice engages with collective buildings through a systemic approach, where form is not an end in itself, but the result of a rigorous reading of context, use, and existing urban conditions.

Through cultural, sports and civic projects, BAX explores how architecture can establish continuity between the public realm and the built environment, activating relationships between interior and exterior, circulation and permanence, programme and everyday life. The studio has built work across Finland, Norway, Spain, Slovenia and Mexico, bringing a consistent approach to diverse geographic and cultural contexts. Particular attention is given to the ground level, the section, and the in-between spaces where architecture becomes genuinely public.

The studio is committed to an economy of means, functional clarity and durability, understanding time and ageing as integral to the project. Its buildings do not impose themselves, but rather integrate into broader urban systems, organising uses and enabling diverse forms of appropriation.

BAX’s work has received several internationally recognised awards, consolidating a trajectory that positions architecture as a collective tool, capable of supporting complex ways of living through precise, understated and deeply grounded responses.
