The extension and renovation of the BG BRG Weiz school overcomes the required linearity of the design, dictated by the site’s constraints, through an artistic interpretation of the task in terms of function, space, and materiality. The historic preservation requirements of the surrounding buildings are skillfully addressed within the limited space of the site, resulting in a linear, spatial sculpture.

The chosen materials, particularly in the area of the stage, allow for an extremely free and sculptural expression. Consequently, in some areas, the new school extension doesn’t resemble a school building at all; rather, certain spatial sequences are reminiscent of a sculpturally designed, artistically sophisticated single-family home or a modern interpretation of a mountain cabin. It’s all a matter of perspective, encouraging people to spend time in and use the building for daily purposes, offering a viewpoint that differs from the seemingly logical and conventional one typically encountered in everyday life.
