The project concerns a detached residence located in a southern suburb of Athens, Greece. The presence of ancient findings on the site became the main design generator. In order to protect them, the building footprint was confined to a specific area of the plot, avoiding any structural intervention on the archaeological remains.
This constraint was used as a design tool, shaping the building into two distinct volumes that rotate around the axis of the staircase, enclosing the ancient findings. The ground floor hosts the common living areas and a guest room, while the upper level accommodates the private spaces, oriented to the south for optimal sunlight and autonomy for its users. The attic level provides a more secluded space with extended views, while the basement includes parking and auxiliary functions. The outdoor spaces are designed as a natural extension of the interior, creating a continuous living environment. The aim was to form an elegant residence that respects the character of the area, while offering a warm and contemporary living experience.
