Although public drinking fountains are often seen as purely utilitarian, Šibenik has demonstrated that thoughtful design can transform even the most ordinary elements of public space into defining features of a city’s identity.
The fountain’s visually striking form conceals a robust steel structure made from industrially prefabricated pipes in three diameters. By cutting, welding, and connecting the pipes at different angles, a dynamic three-dimensional object is created, with water as its central element. Whether placed along historic streets, beaches, or modern urban areas, the fountain stands out while harmoniously integrating into its surroundings.
Functionality and hygiene are paramount: the fountain provides three ways to drink or refill, meeting the highest standards of cleanliness. Fresh, clean water is also supplied for pets and other animals, reflecting attention to all members of the community. Accessibility for people with disabilities, vandalism protection, and eco-friendly design further underscore its thoughtful approach.
More than just a functional object, these fountains represent a new vision for public space, where design, ecology, community care, and historical awareness converge to create a sustainable and distinctive urban identity.
Designer: 2FG STUDIO
Small-scale design studio from a small city, but with true grit. Founded by Ante Filipović Grčić in 2012 as the culmination of a longstanding desire for independent creative work. Honest craftsmanship, artistic integrity, and well-thought-out design are the basic principles of our work. It is essential for us to preserve the core functional values of different design disciplines (visual communication design, product design, site-specific interventions), which are often interspersed throughout our works. We strive to remain consistent with our own visual language so that our works, in this highly commercialized world ruled by temporary fads, last longer than one season.
