Michaela and Jakub are designers and storytellers in Bohemian glass. Their work is rooted in contemporary design, combined with mastery of production and deep respect for old Central European craft and traditions. They design, produce, and sell collections of lights and decorative glass products, including unique light fixtures crafted from mouth-blown glass and handcrafted brass. Their glamorous chandeliers illuminate spaces with a playful yet elegant character.
A hallmark of their work is blowing glass into a colour gradient. The wide range of fresh gradient hues is a distinctive feature of the Bandaska vase from their new collection, inspired by traditional milk containers once common in Czech village households. These elegant lines are reimagined for modern homes in the form of glass vases and lights. In addition to their main collections, they create bespoke luminous objects for interiors, born from experimenting with unconventional materials and unusual combinations.
Alongside their own practice, Michaela and Jakub engage in special collaborations and exhibitions. They have worked with renowned galleries and institutions, and curated and exhibited projects in Milan, London, Frankfurt, Istanbul, and other cities around the world. All of their creations are carefully manufactured in Czech workshops using unique methods, including hand-blowing, snapping, cutting, grinding, firing, engraving, and glass painting.
They founded DECHEM Studio in Prague in 2012 as partners in both work and life, after years of studying glass craft and design, and have since developed it into a renowned and award-winning design studio.
