Unlike common retinal scanners with a structural separation of headrest and camera, the Velara 200 is based on a closed form, a sort of “camera obscura”. This helps to avoid an impairment of the image quality caused by incident ambient light. On the patient’s side, soft lines and a light color scheme support a positive perception of the device. Furthermore, the body is slightly curved, which helps the patient to correctly align the head and the neck. The design emphasized the contrast between the restrained box shape and the dynamically playful curves.
