COMMOD House Matrix, Klosterneuburg

Modular houses made of wood are more than just bedroom, kitchen and bath. COMMOD “Matrix” is a weekend and summer house for a family of 5 with 163 m² GFA (124 NGF). During the week the family lives in Vienna, but every free minute they spend at the small village northwest of the city. When you enter the house, you immediately feel at home. The open living area with the chic kitchen (design by COMMOD) in white with black fittings and the illuminated exposed-beam ceiling in natural oiled larch with intervening panels in white oiled spruce triple-layer boards opens onto the garden with pool. You can literally hear the children’s laughter that surrounds the room and see exuberant summer parties in your mind’s eye. The bright staircase with wooden slats as a child-proof but also architecturally ingenious fall protection leads to the private family upper floor. Benches that also provide storage space are attached to the windows of the bedrooms and children’s rooms. The highlight for colder days is located in the bathroom – a beautiful sauna with a gorgeous view of the adjacent “Wienerwald”. The façade of the house is reminiscent of a flowing matrix with its staggered windows of different sizes and larch fields that seem to be in motion.
