The Toddler Mobility Trainer (TMT) is a custom-built, 3D-printed mobility device designed for children ages 1-8 who need assistance with independent movement. Unlike traditional wheelchairs, the TMT is specifically engineered for young children’s developmental needs.
Intentionally designed to be child-friendly, this mobility device is welcoming, fun, and fits in at home or school. It is easy to fabricate and assemble, only requiring a standard, consumer grade 3D printer to make the chair body, straps, and cushions. A small amount of hardware is required to finish the build. This 3D printed device is available for free under a public domain open source license to enable distributed manufacturing using 3D printing worldwide.
Our new platform – 3d-mobility.org – is a global matchmaking network connecting makers with families in need. Built from durable PETG and TPU plastics, the device has been tested with pediatric therapy input and used successfully by hundreds of children. Many families are purchasing 3D printers and learning to use them, and are successfully creating their own Toddler Mobility Trainers.
