For the 2030 Shimane National Sports Festival, a competition was held in Misato Town, with about 4,000 residents, to design a boathouse that incorporates Balinese architectural styles. The facility serves both as a competition venue and as a daily training base for students. The Gono River provides suitable conditions for international canoe competitions and has long supported a strong local canoeing culture.

Building on a cultural exchange that began around 30 years ago – when Misato Town sent a traditional Balinese canoe (jukung) to the village of Mas. The boathouse adopts the Balinese philosophy of Tri Hita Karana, emphasizing harmony among people, nature, and the divine. This concept is expressed through a roof form inspired by the jukung and the use of natural materials that integrate the building with its surrounding landscape. Since its completion, the facility has extended its role beyond sports, hosting Bali festivals, local events, and national-level competitions.

The project demonstrates how architecture can generate sustainable value by combining sport, culture, and landscape to create a lasting civic and cultural legacy for a community.
