Jasna Hrovatin

Jasna Hrovatin graduated in 1987 from the Faculty of Architecture under Professor Niko Kralj. For her diploma thesis, she received the Uniles Award. Immediately after completing her degree, she was employed as a junior researcher by Prof. Niko Kralj. She obtained her Master’s degree in 1990 and completed her PhD in 1993, becoming the youngest PhD holder in Slovenia and the first woman to earn a doctorate at the Faculty of Architecture.

After completing her doctorate, she joined the Biotechnical Faculty in Ljubljana, Department of Wood Science and Technology. She lectured at the Department of Wood Science and Technology, at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design, and in the doctoral program of the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Engineering in Ljubljana. Since 2009, she has been employed at the Faculty of Design as Vice-Dean for Research and Head of the Chair of Furniture Design.

She is engaged in interior design and industrial design. She has received numerous awards at furniture fairs, as well as awards and acquisitions at national and international competitions. Her works have been exhibited in Ljubljana, Belgrade, Cologne, Copenhagen, and Frankfurt. She holds eight European registered designs and seven patents. She has authored three scientific monographs. In 2011, her monograph Niko Kralj was nominated for the Plečnik Award and for the “Trend” Award 2010.
