Fuchsbau – A Story of Transformation: A shed from the 1970s, which had been used as an office since the 1990s, is being converted into an apartment. The building is located on a sloping plot with a beautiful view of the Muldenauen, in the town of Eilenburg, on the edge of the Dübener Heide.
The client pursued the idea of effectively minimizing the generation of construction and demolition materials and the amount of primary energy consumed by preserving, converting, and reusing the existing building fabric as far as possible. The aim was to use predominantly regional, durable, and ecological building materials. These formed the basis for our design concept and layout. The intervention in the existing structure was limited to the installation of a semi-circular window, a new wooden staircase, and a shower room underneath the stairs (economical use of space). Upstairs, a sleeping alcove was built above the treetops, similar to a bird’s nest.
