Inspired by the historic “Goalpost” play portraying the 1971 Liberation War at Feni Govt. College, this memorial stands on the very ground where martyrs were once tortured and buried. We envisioned an abstract “Monumental Goalpost”, symbolizing the horrific hanging of martyrs while educating youth about their sacrifice. The 40-foot concrete walls represent the infamous goalpost, featuring a golden inscription in Bangla: “On the steps of the temple of liberation, how many lives were sacrificed.”
A black backdrop with 71 blood-red perforations symbolizes the gunshots endured. Six suspended copper cylinders represent the stages of war: Cognition, Awakening, Warfare, Agony, Victory, and Independence. The design transforms a once-abandoned site into a vibrant cultural hub, with an amphitheater, memorial plaques, and lush greenery. This project is not just a monument; it is a ceremonial space for socialization and a beacon of national identity, bridging history with the future.
