Camilla De Camilli, Italy, 2026

Nominator: Maria Alessandra Segantini
Nominator's statement
I nominate Architect CAMILLA DE CAMILLI, for the project: Caretaker House, Bologna, Italy.
The project evokes the archetype of Bologna’s porticos, to which temporary elements like the sunshades are added to create a conversation in time. Exceeding its program, the hose was easily turned into a hybrid multifunctional space for recreational activities supporting the therapeutic journey of people affected by eating disorders.
The pavillion certes a sense of calm and peace in strong connection with nature.
CASA DEL CUSTODE, BOLOGNA IT
Casa del Custode_wooden pavilion

Immersed in the lush park of a 17th century villa in the hills of Bologna, the project fulfils the need for additional space by the foundation dedicated to the treatment of eating disorders.
The wooden house rests effortlessly on the slope, straddling the path that unfolds among the trees so that the internal distribution, is nothing but a continuation of it.
The intervention is strongly tied to the terrain, wooden pillars stick out of the ground like tree trunks and each element is dimensioned to a minimum.
The rhythmic pattern is broken by the dynamism of the shading systems whose mutability transforms the fronts according to the changing seasons and light conditions. The thin roof line traces a horizon that emphasises the reading of the topography.
The spirit of the pavilion is fulfilled by the creation of a place of calm and peace in strong connection with nature, open to multiple uses.

CINEMA CENTRALE, UDINE IT

The transformation of Cinema Centrale, a historic institution in the city of Udine, reimagines it as a cultural space beyond film screening. It becomes a new public platform for cultural exchange—a renewed urban centrality where ideas and actions converge—through spaces designed to engage the community in diverse activities.
Accessible throughout the day to a broad public, it hosts educational programs, presentations, exhibitions, performances, music, and informal gatherings. Space, identity, and context are key themes. The intervention reveals the complexity of the existing building through an operation of subtraction that exposes and reinterprets its original structures, opening new spatial possibilities.
A continuous sequence of spaces, each with a clear identity, unfolds from the urban frontage to the depth of the site, rediscovering its position between the historic fabric and a 1960s intervention, and restoring it to a renewed public role.

THE BOOK OF MODELS

This book collect the heritage of the last 10 years of Aires Mateus design studios at the Mendrisio Accademy of Architecture in Switzerland.
A large family of 100 images of big scale models are gathered into this photographic anthology. A sort of manifesto on the importance of the models in the architectural genesis, throughout the design process and as a statement.
Spaces made of absolute abstraction and thick matter, with no function, nor scale, are objectified by the photographer Marco Cappelletti.
Pictures are paired with essential schemes which add a layer of understanding to the volumes portrayed beside.
The collection shapes an undefined territory suspended between collective archetypes and unexpected discovery.
