The architectural design of the Lipska bus stop features a 3D-printed concrete shell with a glass roof. The shape of the shell was parametrically-generated based on a series of requirements, and represents a modified elliptical cylinder: it has an elliptical footprint, with its main semi-axis placed longitudinally to the direction of the street, enabling smooth pedestrian movement around the stop.
The complicated shape of the stop was achieved by using 3D concrete printing technology. The stop was printed in four parts and then assembled on-site, minimizing construction work in a public space. The individual layers of 3D printing form horizontal lines on the surface of the shell, and their thickness decreases upwards. The lines evoke geological layers and give the architecture of the stop a permanent, enduring character. The shell is covered by a simple structure made of steel beams and glass panels. The minimalist roofing construction highlights the form of the shell and frames the view of the sky. At night, the stop is illuminated by LED lights located in the roof structure. The shape of the shell is complemented by an interior bench and three exterior seats.
