The Interlocking Sanctuary: A New Multi-Generational Paradigm: The Interlocking Sanctuary redefines multi-generational living on a 100-sq-wah plot, evolving a traditional footprint into a sophisticated, three-story contemporary structure. This project addresses urban density challenges by housing two families under one roof through a “Common-to-Common” connectivity – a strategic, vertical overlap of shared voids that fosters familial bonds while maintaining rigid private boundaries.
The ground floor functions as a self-contained “Parental Suite”, featuring a double-volume void and a koi pond, to blend wellness with accessibility. The second level serves as a “Social Hub” with independent access and semi-outdoor balconies, while the third-floor “Private Penthouse” offers a master sanctuary with a panoramic bar. Architecturally, the building contrasts a protective, minimalist white façade with a warm, tactile timber interior. A central “Light Well” skylight harvests natural illumination, creating a thermal stack that encourages passive airflow throughout the dense footprint.
