The pieces Puddle, Polygon H and Polygon L are a part of the cycle that emerged from a research and design process centered on investigating the role of form and its function in shaping human experience. At the core of this process is the question of how visual and perceptual qualities – mainly geometry and material – affect the way an object is understood, felt, and remembered by the observer.
Form was considered not as a static or decorative element, but as something active, capable of influencing perception, behavior, and ambiance. The creative approach explored how natural phenomena could be translated into art by exploring the underlying principles of how they occur – growth, transformation, and material interaction – and how they could inform design. The outcomes were therefore left open, embracing chance and interpretation, inviting viewers into a space of imagination, reflection, and discovery. All the pieces are initially created in concrete, using polystyrene as a mold, which is treated mechanically and partially chemically to produce initial negative form.
All the pieces in concrete contain stainless steel rods, 3-6mm in diameter, as a reinforcement for vertical load-bearing elements (legs). Concrete mixture uses white cement and white sand. Versions in bronze use concrete pieces as a positive, therefore, those are identical pieces. Polygon H and Polygon L are reinforced with stainless steel rods, 6mm in diameter, as a reinforcement for vertical load-bearing elements (legs), casted within the bronze. The intricate texture of all the bronze pieces is patinated chemically, and subsequently brushed to give them a partial glossy finish dispersed across the whole surface of the piece, except the flat sides. Flat sides of Polygon H and Polygon L are paper-sanded to produce a satin finish. Flat sides of the piece Puddle are polished to produce a high-gloss finish. Dimensions (H×L×W): Puddle, 46×44×35cm; Polygon H, 60×30×26cm; Polygon L, 43×55×61cm

Partner on the project Puddle was Foundry Djakovic from Sivac. Partner on the projects Polygon H and Polygon L was Foundry Ljubisavljevic from Smederevo. Both foundries / partners were involved in the technical production of bronze pieces only, while Nikola Lajic retains the full authorship of the submitted designs, and their initial concrete versions.
