The solid wood kindergarten building consists of modular volumes and blends seamlessly into the scale of the single-family home development on a level building site. The goal is a morphologically ideal kindergarten with child-friendly scale, intuitive orientation, and optimally designed spaces – flooded with light, clearly laid out, and flexible. The cruciform building provides four equally sized, clearly arranged group rooms with natural light on both sides and a strong connection to the outdoors.

The building features varying ceiling heights depending on the function. The access area with cloakrooms and the office area has a ceiling height of 2,6 m. The group rooms, with a height of 3,6 m, allow for optimal visual connections to the adjacent retreat area, with a ceiling height of 2,3 m – which is located directly above the bathroom, also with a ceiling height of 2,3 m. Adjoining the central, 50 m² entrance hall is the activity room, which can be transformed into a 135 m² communal area by opening mobile partitions. Each group room has a direct view of the vestibule. Visual axes across the group rooms and cloakrooms, as well as diagonally through the entrance / activity room, provide clarity and orientation.

A construction period of just nine months was made possible by the high degree of prefabrication of the 244 m³ of solid wood components. The entire structural system was constructed entirely of wood, without the use of steel beams. Sustainability is ensured using renewable and ecological building materials such as glulam walls, ceilings made of local spruce, wooden floors, and spruce window frames. Split ventilation units allowed for short ventilation ducts and low suspended ceilings. Heating and cooling are provided by a geothermal heat pump with a ground source heat exchanger, which distributes heat through underfloor heating and chilled walls. Minimal energy consumption is achieved through passive house construction, with PV system + H2O storage + mechanical ventilation with heat recovery.
