Architect

Florian Nepravishta is an architect and full Professor at the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism (FAU), Polytechnic University of Tirana. He has significant academic leadership experience, including roles as Dean of the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism, Head of the Architecture Department (FAU), and Head of the Architecture and Urbanism Department (FIN) at UPT. His professional practice, teaching, and research focus on architectural design, housing, heritage conservation, and urban regeneration.
He has completed academic qualifications and engaged in teaching at international universities in Italy, the Netherlands, Sweden, France, Germany, Spain, Romania, Greece, North Macedonia, and Kosovo. Prof. Nepravishta has an extensive publication record, including scientific articles, reference works, and monographs. His notable works include “Albanian Architecture & Design,” “Modernisation and Globalisation: New Paradigms in Architecture, City, Territory,” “Austro-Hungarian Presence in Albania:
Architecture, Planning, Infrastructure 1916-1935,”“Heritage in Ruins of the Abandoned Medieval Village of Tragjasi: Conservation and Revitalisation of the Forgotten,” and “Rehabilitation and Adaptive Reuse of Existing Buildings in Albania.” The book “Albanian Architecture & Design” received the Grand Prix for “Best Architectural Publication” at the 7th Balkan Architecture Biennale (BAB 25), under the theme New Bauhaus on the Balkans.
His professional achievements include curating architectural exhibitions at national and international levels, such as the Albanian Pavilion at the Balkan Architecture Biennale (BAB21, BAB23, BAB25) in Belgrade and organising workshops and public programs. He is the co-founder and Director of the International Forum on Architecture and Urbanism (IFAU), which has held editions in Tirana, Pescara, Caserta, and Tirana (IFAU17, IFAU18, IFAU19, IFAU23, IFAU25).
He has served on the Scientific Committee for over 60 international scientific conferences in Italy, France, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovenia, Serbia, Turkey, North Macedonia, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, and Albania. He has also been an editorial board member for several national
and international journals, including “Monumentet,” “Buletini i Shkencave Teknike,” “Arhitektura i Urbanizam,” “SPATIUM, “ “South-East European Journal of Architecture and Design (SEEJAD),” “Journal of Civil Engineering and Architecture, USA,” and “JAS – SUT. Journal of Applied Sciences-SUT.” He is the founder and Director of the book series Forum for Architecture and Urbanism (FAU), published by La Scuola di Pitagora Editrice, Italy.
Prof. Nepravishta has served as a member of the Senate of the Polytechnic University of Tirana, the Scientific Council of the Institute of Cultural Monuments, and the presidency of the Albanian Association of
Architects. He is also a member of the Albanian Association of Architects and the SHARE Society.
He is the founder and principal architect of SMART STUDIO, Tirana. The studio undertakes a range of design and implementation projects, including residential buildings, hotels and resorts, public buildings, heritage restoration, adaptive reuse, interior architecture, and urban design. In 2024,
the Tirana Business Centre project was nominated for the EU Mies van der Rohe Award and the SHARE Architecture Award. In 2025, SMART STUDIO received First Prize in the international competition Hospitality Albania for the reconception of the government residences, Vila e Velipoja.
