STUDJURBAN

STUDJURBAN is an award-winning Maltese architecture and urban design studio, established in 2012, to champion higher-quality, context-led design. Working as a boutique consultancy, it links policy, research, and collaboration to built outcomes, convening designers, policy-makers, communities, and researchers to bridge the theory - practice gap in spatial planning and design.

The practice is led by Dr. Antoine Zammit, an architect and urban designer and Senior Lecturer at the University of Malta. His strength lies in translating complex urban challenges into clear, deliverable strategies - balancing design ambition with governance, stakeholder alignment, and implementation realities. Across academia and practice, he is known for a rigorous, systems-based approach that connects public space, mobility, heritage and resilience into coherent place-making outcomes.

STUDJURBAN's portfolio spans more than a decade of work across Malta and beyond, with projects ranging from civic squares and streetscapes to regeneration, housing, and public-realm upgrades - often in sensitive historic contexts where contemporary needs must be reconciled with cultural value. The studio has earned multiple awards and professional recognitions for built work and strategic urban initiatives, and its projects are frequently referenced as benchmarks for quality, liveability, and long-term stewardship of place.

Beyond projects, the studio shapes research and policy - it has spearheaded Slow Streets Malta with the Local Councils' Association and partners, and developed people-first mobility guidance (including "Resident First" principles) to support better decisions on streets and civic centers. By explicitly choosing responsible architecture over Malta's building frenzy, and advocating to reclaim streets and squares from car dominance, STUDJURBAN is widely seen as a leading and influential voice, challenging the status quo with evidence-based, liveability-driven design.
