Vision Pakistan offers second chance to marginalized, low-income male youth of Ghauri Town, Islamabad, aiming for social independence and economic self-sufficiency. The six-storey institute provides rare, creative, and safe space, offering hope to this impressionable youth previously overlooked.
A central vertical core allows independent floor and revenue generation, with retail, exhibition, and parking at lower levels; classrooms, offices, multipurpose halls, washrooms, and triple-height atrium above; and staff housing, dining, prayer spaces, terraces, and kitchen garden at top. RCC, fair-face concrete, exposed brick, terrazzo, aluminum windows, and colorful metal screens ensure durability, sustainability, cultural continuity, and a human-centered environment.
The architecture embodies the vernacular language of the region, integrating local colors, sights, and sounds while paying homage to Islamabad’s 1960s modern heritage. It challenges copied foreign aesthetics, proving architecture rooted in context can be meaningful and revered. The building’s humanism fosters acceptance, participation, ownership, and improved self-esteem. Designed for economic and environmental self-sufficiency, the colorful façade maximizes daylight and ventilation using culturally inspired perforations and local technology.
Despite budget constraints, it demonstrates that beauty need not be expensive and teaches recycling and responsibility, establishing the project as social and architectural benchmarks.
