Tsuki Chair is a small-scale, self-produced piece that I designed and built entirely myself – from the first sketch and prototypes to the final handcrafted object. Like all my furniture, it was created in a one-person workshop where both design and making take place under the same roof, by the same hands.
The backrest draws inspiration from the silhouette of Japanese torii gates, giving the chair a strong, sculptural presence while remaining airy. It is crafted from solid ash or oak, depending on the desired tone, with a bent solid brass or copper rod serving as a structural and visual lower brace. The seat consists of a fully curved, multilayered plywood shell, padded and upholstered to follow the form and provide ergonomic comfort – intended not for lounging, but for dining or shorter periods of sitting.
Material efficiency and longevity were central to the design: the chair uses minimal wood, generates almost no waste, and remains exceptionally stable thanks to its thoughtful form and durable hardwood construction.
