Most of the original partitions were removed and a new central core was introduced, housing a bathroom and a children’s dressing room. Around this core, the main living zones are organized: a living room with kitchen, a study, and children’s rooms. The layout is flexible and can function either as one open space or as separate rooms, using sliding doors, allowing it to adapt to the family’s changing needs over time.
The only fully enclosed room is the bedroom, conceived as a compact sleeping box with an oversized bed (2.8 × 2.1 meters), designed to comfortably accommodate both parents and their children together. A key design theme is the exposure of structural materials. Load-bearing walls were stripped to reveal the original brickwork, finished only with white paint. New partitions were designed more like built-in furniture than traditional walls. Made with light birch veneer, they provide warmth, durability, and practicality, especially in high-use areas around the core.
Playful details were also incorporated, such as a discreet cat passage integrated into a wardrobe door. To bring natural light into the center, glass skylights were installed at the level of the concrete lintels. An operable window between the bathroom and kitchen enhances both visual connection and natural ventilation. A subtle but distinctive color accent is provided by blue, inspired by the traditional colors of local Slovácko folk architecture, which gives the space a unique character and depth.
