AOR Architects

We are a Helsinki-based architectural practice founded in 2015. Our work is characterized by a strong understanding of place and materials, bold problem-solving, and sustainable architecture. We design buildings in which the architectural concept is clearly and cohesively expressed. Our solutions are inventive, respond to users’ needs and functional requirements, and create a distinctive identity and presence in the urban landscape. Every design decision is carefully considered and well justified.

Our particular expertise is designing complex public buildings in demanding urban settings, as well as additions in delicate historical contexts and natural surroundings. We are specialists in timber architecture - be it industrial CLT, log construction, or innovative new techniques. Our comprehensive portfolio has earned numerous awards in international competitions and in Finland, including winning designs for Tampere Art Museum, Tuusula Cultural Centre, Karhula library and school, Jätkäsaari school, and Kottby school. Our practice has also been honored with the State Prize for Architecture (2021), the Pietilä Prize (2018), and the Finnish Wood Award (2023).

In our design process, the latest technological advancements are used in harmony with physical modeling, prototyping, and hand-drawing. We are committed to using sustainable solutions and natural materials as the foundation of all our work, and we share this knowledge on building and architecture through frequent public lectures and our teaching at Aalto University. We are a member of the ATL Association of Finnish Architectural Offices.
