The two existing gymnasiums were built in 1973 and extended in 1995. The new design is based on a simple color scheme and on the color-coded differentiation of the various halls. Another characteristic feature of the existing structure is the ceiling beams that extend outwards and transfer the loads via concrete columns positioned in front of them.
The interior color scheme, coordinated with the façade, takes account of this interplay and interweaving of structural elements (columns, beams, ceiling, and windows) and functional elements (wooden sports flooring, MDF walls), and is manifested in just two color families per hall. The reduction of the hall colors to shades of blue and green has, as far as possible, also been applied to the gymnastics equipment, creating visual harmony and a whole new spatial quality. Our aim was to transform the inherent color chaos of the existing building into the “now”. Has the turnaround been achieved?
