The existing Wälderhaus was renovated and carefully developed further, with great care and deep respect for its historical building fabric. The aim was to preserve the original character and structural logic of the building, while simultaneously creating contemporary living comfort. The load-bearing structure was completely retained and continues to form the backbone of the house.
The formerly painted wooden windows and the shingle façade were replaced with traditional sliding sash windows and a natural, round-shingle cladding, restoring the building’s authentic appearance. Inside, classic coffered paneling alternates with regional white fir paneling, creating a warm atmosphere shaped by craftsmanship. The existing bathrooms were carefully modernized and fitted with large-format limestone tiles. A dry construction floor system was installed above the original floor structure and finished with a solid ash floor, combining durability with refined material quality.
The historic barn space was preserved in its original structure and converted into a versatile, multi-purpose room – an area that connects past and present. The building is heated by an energy-efficient, ground-source heat pump system, contributing to sustainable operation. The project brings together traditional construction methods, regional materials, and contemporary technology into a cohesive whole.
