HOCH – Residental Housing Munich by synn architekten

For “Münchner Wohnen”, we designed three residential houses in timber-hybrid construction in the north of Munich. They consist of a three-story base, accentuated by one or two high points. In the exterior design, we emphasize homogeneity, with façades clad in vertical wooden slats and integrated outdoor seating areas, most of which are designed as loggias.

The houses act as a family and lend the ensemble a nest-like feel. The City of Munich required compliance with the KfW 40 criteria (40% primary energy consumption compared to a reference building with minimum thermal insulation requirements), as well as the use of 50 kg of renewable raw materials per m² of living space. A reinforced concrete skeleton forms the supporting structure of the buildings and is infilled with wooden prefab elements. The façade elements are insulated with wood fiber insulation and anchored to the load-bearing components with built-in windows. Integrated into the wall elements are all air intake openings, concealed from the outside, as well as 100 nesting boxes for bats, swifts, and sparrows. Underfloor heating completes the high-quality features for a subsidized housing project.
