INNAUER MATT ARCHITEKTEN, Austria
Markus Innauer graduated in Architecture from the University of Applied Arts in Vienna in 2009. After gaining experience in Singapore and at the architectural firm Oskar Leo Kaufmann, he co-founded the architectural studio Innauer Matt Architekten in 2012 together with Sven Matt (b. 1980).
Innauer Matt Architekten, based in the Bregenzerwald, a mountain valley in western Austria, is dedicated to architecture that is closely connected to its location, the natural environment, and its users. Their architectural solutions are atmospherically dense yet subtle and meticulously detailed. They strive to harmoniously integrate the new with the existing. Their high level of precision, combined with a relaxed design approach, often results in impressively simple solutions under complex conditions. At the heart of their work is the search for architectural solutions that provide a sense of familiarity and comfort to their surroundings and that will withstand the test of time.
Their work has been widely recognized with numerous awards:
- AIT Architectural Awards 2018 – Special Recognition for the Chapel in Wirmboden.
- Listed among “40 under 40 / The Best Emerging Young Architects and Designers in Europe” by The Chicago Athenaeum and The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies.
- National Design Award 2017 for spatial planning together with Super BFG for the project Georunde Rindberg in Sibratsgfäll.

- Best Architects Award 2016 (Germany) – for their houses Feurstein and House for Julia and Bjorn, with the latter also winning the Hauser Award 2016 for Best Interior.
