Roman Vrtiška

Roman Vrtiška graduated in Industrial Design from the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design (AAAD) in Prague in 2008. In 2005, he collaborated with one of the leading design studios, Olgoj Chorchoj, working on projects for Pilsner, Urquell, and Vitra. In 2009, together with his partner Vladimir Žák (born 1980), he founded the design studio Vrtiška Žák.

Roman Vrtiška and Vladimir Žák first met during their studies at AAAD in Prague, where they began collaborating. Both completed internships at Aalto University in Helsinki, Finland, where their work was also awarded. After graduating from AAAD, they became part of the new, fresh generation of Czech designers with broad interests and a high level of professionalism. Since then, they have executed projects across various fields, from architecture and industrial design to graphic design. They have worked for companies such as Adidas, Avast, Belda Factory, Česká spořitelna, DTZ, Egoé, Heineken, Interspar, Jitona, mmcité, Ruukki, Teroforma, Verreum, and others. Since 2016, they have been leading the D2 Department for Furniture and Interior Design at AAAD in Prague.

They have received numerous awards for their work. In 2008, they received several prestigious awards for the best student project for their urban furniture collection SINUS. In 2013, their furniture collection for Jitona earned them the EDIDA 2013 Award and the Grand Prix in the bed design category. In 2014, they received the Editors’ Choice Award at the Designblok Festival in the “Best New Product” category for the Woo Toys collection. In 2016, they received two awards at Designblok: in the “Best New Furniture” category for the TUTU stable design for Devoto, and the “Best Installation” award for presenting Beldafactory.
