Carlo Cappai, Maria Alessandra Segantini

C+S Architects, Italy

Carlo Cappai and Maria Segantini, who run the C+S Architects studio, strive to unravel the complexity of the environment through architecture. They avoid both imitating the past and the temptation of the bizarre, fashionable, and spectacular, preferring to focus on a form of urban development that is both contemporary and continuous. They believe that both trendy events and celebrity architecture lead to a new global monotony. Instead, they use unusual elements that breathe new life into the overall atmosphere in an effort to solve the problem in a creative and unconventional way.

Both Cappai and Segantini have been guest professors at various universities, including MIT in Boston and Syracuse University in the US. Among their many awards, it is worth mentioning the special gold medal for Italian Architecture in 2012 and their selection for the European Mies van der Rohe Award in 2009.
