Tuomo Siitonen Architects, Finland
The award-winning Tuomo Siitonen Architects is known for working on some of the most demanding projects in Finland. The studio, which employs 15 top architects and designers, emphasizes elegance and ecology in all its architectural solutions, regardless of the size, content, or scope of the project.
Tuomo Siitonen was a professor of architecture at the Helsinki University of Technology (TKK) for 15 years and is the only two-time winner of the Finnish State Prize for Architecture. The commission wrote: “Tuomo Siitonen’s work demonstrates uncompromising professionalism in demanding environments and an admirable ability to breathe new life into buildings.”
He earned the Concrete Building of the Year award for his conversion of a former distillery in Helsinki into a courthouse. The courthouse is now a striking part of the city skyline, along with the nearby brick-red Varma office building, which was the largest project of its kind in Finland that year.
