In the heart of Vienna, a small tobacco shop – once a beloved neighborhood meeting point – has been transformed into a powerful monument against violence toward women.
The design tells a layered story. Socially, it sparks dialogue on women’s rights. Historically, it preserves the original façade. Symbolically, the scarred plasterwork lays bare the brutality of the crime. Technically, the contrast between the weight of 19th-century masonry and the lightness of steel, glass, and canvas underscores a transformation.
A worn aluminum handle – touched by countless hands – serves as a bridge between past and present. A reflective metal façade dissolves physical boundaries, merging city life, art, and personal reflection. The luminous surfaces abstract the space, turning it into a blank canvas for new narratives.
FRAU schafft Raum* reclaims this place – transforming violence into remembrance, solidarity, and a call for change.
