The first bike station in Bergamo is strategically located near the railway station, at the edge of the historic center, integrating seamlessly into the intermodal hub and the urban regeneration project of Porta Sud. Situated on the eastern side of Piazzale Marconi, redesigned by Ines Lobo, the station is a low-tech, fully reversible structure. Its transparency ensures safety and accessibility, promoting sustainable mobility.
The project serves as an interchange hub connecting public transport, pedestrian paths, and cycling routes, offering 132 bike spaces within a 200 sqm area. The dry-assembled structure, funded by the Ministry of Ecological Transition, enabled rapid construction on an already urbanized site.
With its steel frame and continuous glass façade, the building boasts a clean, lightweight design. By day, the transparent envelope diffuses natural light, while at night, it transforms into an “urban lantern”. Photovoltaic panels ensure the station’s energy self-sufficiency. Fully automated, the bike station provides an efficient, user-friendly service, blending technological innovation with sustainability.
