The MM Apartment

The MM Apartment project is a renovation of an apartment in the Kypseli neighborhood of Athens, of approximately 55sqm, where the main objectives were the rearrangement of the floor plan to improve the functionality of the space and to enhance the amount of natural light coming through. Therefore, the living space contains the living room and the kitchen along with a dining table. The bedroom, the bathroom and a storage area are included in the rest of the apartment. The open plan design takes advantage of the long sides of the apartment while the main element of redesign inspiration is the curve of the existing kitchen wall. The curve is applied on the ceiling, on the metal space separation construction, the furniture forms and wall ornamental colorings. The use of colors, such as dark blue, orange brown and neutrals, combined with wood elements, make living in a small space pleasant, ergonomic and sustainable. In more detail, the apartment develops from the entrance and a small storage space to the main living area which consists of the kitchen and the living room, placed in a row.

The metal construction is the element that unifies the two spaces. A TV and office furniture with black metal details is placed opposite the window of the living room dominating the overall composition of the living room furniture. Regarding the kitchen, the materials that were chosen are matte white worktops and wooden surfaces for the base cabinets. The upper cabinets have a dark blue shade. The backsplash of the kitchen is coated with white striped tiles. As for the bathroom, it was redesigned and decorated with large tiles, for a more unified visual result. Details such as those of the curved mirror, the colored furniture of the sink and the black metal hardware set a modern touch to the space. The bedroom has a calm earthy vibe that is achieved through the color combinations and the furniture shapes.
