Excess (1), noise (2) and complexity (3) come from our inborn drive towards bioproductivity (1), intra- and inter-species communication (2) and biodiversity (3). But our drive is too often spoiled by our conditioning and trauma, which ultimately stem from the way we have organized our socioeconomic system. The system has even corrupted our perceptions, thoughts and emotions to the extent that we see the ecosystem as full of excess (1), noise (2) and complexity (3), rather than joy (1), meaning (2) and interbeing (3). And we proceed to extract (1) from the ecosystems, control them (2) and destroy them (3), rather than contribute to them (1), participate in them (2) and regenerate them (3). So… we need architecture that is not only physically (ecologically) regenerative, but also radically shakes us out of our perceptions and habits, and actively undermines the socioeconomic system. We need architecture that helps us be life aware of life creating life.

This contribution is part of our ongoing survey “TOO MUCH? What is just enough?” where we collect personal reflections on excess and balance in life, architecture and design. We are gathering diverse, thought-provoking answers that will help shape future discussions and content.
